The bid is estimated to be for 2856 air-conditioned Vande Metro coaches in Mumbai’s suburban railway network. The order consists of 238 trains, each with 12 coaches.
Although there have been no bid details, the project is estimated to include the procurement, maintenance and supply of Vande Metro Rakes, including setting up new depots and upgrading existing facilities.
Estimates of this are found at over Rs 30,000-40,000, which runs over seven years.
The bids are expected to be released by August this year, and the person above states that the last bid and bid will be in place by the end of March 2026. A bid award for the lowest bidder is expected by September 2026. Finalists will need to provide prototypes within two years, and coaches are expected to look into the second half of 2028.
Mumbai Urban Project Phase 3 and Phase 3A will be fully upgraded by 2035 if it proceeds on time.
Beml, Titagarh and Alstom are considered the forefront of this mega order.
