Keeley Hodgkinson won the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, with runner-up Luke Littler taking home the Young Spotty Award.
Hodgkinson climbed the ladder to track and field superstardom by winning gold for Great Britain in the 800m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Littler, who competed in last year’s World Darts Championship aged 16, lost in the final at Alexandra Palace, but his success has had an incredible impact on the popularity of the sport.
Joe Root, who became England’s top Test run scorer in October, came third. Sarah Storey, Alex Yee and Jude Bellingham were the other finalists in the public vote.
At the age of 19, Hodgkinson won the silver medal in the 800m at the Tokyo Olympics and suddenly burst onto the world stage.
Few people outside of British athletics had heard of her at that point, but few knew that she was destined for stardom.
She won two silver medals at the World Championships and finally shined on a golden night in Paris in early August.
Hodgkinson’s success marks an unprecedented fourth year in a row that a woman has won the award, following Mary Earps in 2023, Beth Mead in 2022 and Emma Raducanu in 2021. .
Littler had a sensational year in 2024, winning 10 Darts Grand Slam titles, including his first ranking major, a feat previously surpassed by Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright. only had been achieved.
Littler’s meteoric rise has seen him rise from world youth champion to the center of the professional game and become the face of the sport, with the likes of David Beckham sending him well wishes.
Wigan Warriors named team of the year
Super League champions Wigan Warriors won four trophies in a historic 2024 and were named Team of the Year.
The Warriors started the season by winning the World Club Challenge, defeating Australia’s NRL Triple Crown Champions Penrith Panthers.
They then added the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield, defeating Hull KR in the Grand Final at Old Trafford in October.
It is only the third time in the history of the award that a rugby league club has won this award, joining Wigan in 1994 and St Helens in 2006.
