We share a summary of our experiences on the Barcelona Gluten Free Food Tour.
Hello friends! how are you? I hope you have a great week. Despite the undoubted lack of Spanish adventures, we are enjoying our return home. After 5 weeks in Europe, I’m definitely used to that life 😉
What we learned while traveling: How much did we all love Barcelona? It was my first time as the pilot couldn’t reach part of the trip.
Key highlights: A gluten-free food tour led by a DVIR bar.
As you know, we love to check out major foodies and new foods and restaurants locally and when we travel. I have been strict about gluten-free for two years as part of my healing journey. Back in January, we found out that P has severe gluten sensitivity. I’ve been around the gluten-free block for a while, but P is still learning. And sometimes (very obviously) diss if she doesn’t have a gluten-free option.
To brighten up her Barcelona day, I did some research for gluten-free options and discovered that Barcelona is a haven of gluten-free food options and had a popular gluten-free food tour. I signed up immediately.
When that day arrived, P and I were pretty excited about it. Liv is a good sport and was excited to try some new foods.
Our guide, DVIR, was absolutely fantastic. He spoke English (a group of 11 people was all American), and was a celiac for 40 years. He knows the best spots in Barcelona and took me to six different locations for great gluten-free options. We had chocolate, jamon, gluten-free corn, pizza, pastries, empanadas and ice cream.
I loved the tour setup. We were walking the whole time, and once we reached each spot there were multiple samples to try. At the pizza restaurant, our table had 5 full pizzas with the best flavors. It gave us the opportunity to try many different things and we were very full and happy until the end.
I don’t want to ruin the tour surprises, but here are my top 3 locations we visited:
– Gluten-free empanada glutery.
The chicken and onions were everything… I’m going to dream about empanadas until we get back.
Look at this face. Pure joy.
-Koriaki Bakery.
We tried out a selection of gluten-free pastries, including Nutella croissants that set my soul free. Usually, the GF pastries were disappointing, these were light, flavorful and totally sweet.
– Messi pizza.
Pizza is another thing that often disappoints me in the gluten-free world. It is usually super crunchy, chewy and/or bland. This is a real pizza and we tried out some incredible flavors. I also drank my first beer in years!! Do you think he said they have 40 different gluten-free beers? !
If you are free of celiac or gluten for health reasons, or if you love food and want to try a new place, I can’t recommend this tour well. You will be leading to booking in advance so book your location as soon as you know you’re going to Barcelona. The link is here!
And just raise your head, this is not sponsored or anything like that, and I was willing to pay our participation. I’m happy to spread the word!
So, please tell me, Friend: What is your favorite foodie destination?
Gluten Free Friends: What are your favorite local gluten free foods and restaurants?
xoxo
