Before we dive into the new items, it’s important to define the terminology. “Discontinued” in this case means a product that Apple stopped selling more than seven years ago. As a result, the company will no longer offer repairs or hardware service. Third-party service providers will no longer even be able to order parts for the device.
However, there is one exception to this rule: If you bought one of the affected MacBook models within the last 10 years, “you may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period,” while supplies last. Apple no longer makes batteries.

“Vintage,” on the other hand, refers to products that Apple stopped selling more than five years ago, but are “less than seven years old.” The big difference here is that the tech giant will still provide parts and service for them, though part availability may vary.
Without further ado, here is the list of discontinued Macs:
-
Late 2015 21.5-inch iMac
-
Late 2015 21.5-inch Mac with 4K Retina display
-
Late 2015 27-inch Mac with 5K Retina display
-
Early 2015 13-inch MacBook Air
-
Early 2015 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
-
Early 2016 12-inch Retina display MacBook
-
13-inch MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports from 2016 onwards
-
13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports from 2016 onwards
-
2016 15-inch MacBook Pro
And the 15-inch MacBook Air is the one we recommend for most people, and it’s still $250 off.
The list below includes all vintage products.
-
13-inch MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports from 2017 onwards
-
2018 model 13-inch MacBook Air with Retina display
-
13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports from 2018
Owners of vintage MacBooks should get theirs repaired as soon as possible: The 2017 MacBook will join the discontinued list sometime next year, and the other two will be discontinued in 2026. Unfortunately, discontinued Mac users are out of luck unless they can find a third-party provider that already has the part they need, or find something on eBay.
This is not surprising, but disappointing to some, as Apple has not placed much emphasis on its “old” devices, preferring instead to focus on its “new” ones. Recent rumors suggest that the tech giant will unveil the M4 Mac Mini in October. It’s possible that Apple is freeing up space and resources for the next generation of models.
