Apple and Google restore ability to download TikTok app

3 Min Read

Apple and Google have restored access to the Tiktok app after a brief deletion last month.

The app has been removed from the mobile store to comply with the ban on social media platforms, in accordance with the requirements for Chinese technology companies to sell or shut down it.

The issue was to protect Americans from hostile foreign application laws, with broad bipartisan support passed in Congress last April. The law gave Tiktoc nine months to sell from Chinese parent company Bytedance or remove it from US-based app stores and hosting services.

App usage was restored immediately after being removed from the app store due to a promise from President Trump To save it, however the ability to download it was not available until Thursday.

Before the election, Trump indicated that he would extend the time before the law came into effect so that he could effectively procure transactions that protect national security.
