Included in this article Spoilers For season 2 of “1923” and episode 4.
“Yellowstone” failed to address some unanswered questions before the show’s fifth (probably) final season ended. But the good news is that the western Taylor Sheridan franchise continues to produce spin-offs that fill “Iron River” with “1923” season 2, episode 4, “Traveling the Iron River” and, ultimately, “1923” season 2, which explains the origins of the beloved “railroad station” of the Dutton family.
For those unfamiliar with the “Yellowstone” lore, the railway station is a canyon in a no-manned county between Montana and Wyoming. With no one around, it’s a great place to dispose of the bodies of countless people who paid to get in the way of their benefits beyond Dutton’s family. “Yellowstone” establishes that Dutton has used the place for generations, but they were not the first individuals to discover it.
“1923” reveals that villain Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) accidentally finds the land on a map. He then sends his stoke, Banner Clayton (Jerome Flynn), to abandon the bodies of the dead sex worker he found in his bedroom. That said, Whitfield’s discovery of a convenient location to hide his dark secret probably led him to sign his own death warrant.
Does Donald Whitfield visit the station?
“Yellowstone” reveals that Dutton’s ranch has been in the family for generations, so it seems like a matter of time before Jacob (Harrison Ford) and his relatives stop at Donald Whitfield and other capitalist con artists who want to take the land from them. But for now, he has his family in debt after paying off his property tax.
Of course, Whitfield is not as stupid as to think that legality will halt in Dutton and that he can claim their land and build a tourist resort. Dutton is a murderer, so he intends to dump it in the aforementioned canyon. Bloody is inevitable, as Duttons doesn’t want to live even unning businessmen.
There will be war in the second season of “1923”, but perhaps Whitfield and his companions will be buried at the station. Whether the station will become Whitfield’s final resting place remains to be seen, but Dutton appears to learn about the secret location through an imminent showdown with the villain. Regardless of what the future holds, you can ultimately add the mystery of the “Yellowstone” saga station to a solved column.
