I know you’re overcomplicating things, because everyone does.
Including me, a nerd who studies this field for a living.
I shared a little story the other day. thread (and Instagram):
Thousands of people sympathized and couldn’t help but laugh. In reply. Magdalena joked:
When life demands that I juggle chainsaws, and then light that chainsaw, I tend to move away from what I need to continue to function as a fulfilled human being.
Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit disoriented and sluggish in the mornings and finding it hard to concentrate.
So I asked myself, where have I overcomplicated things, and where can I simplify things?
Back to basics.
I also exercised. A balanced dinner (Protein, veggies, mini fries). And I’m into Astro Bot (fun) on the Playstation. Slow Horse on AppleTV+ (Gary Oldman is awesome) and I am really enjoying it thread…
I put the phone down.
I turned off the TV.
I went to bed at a reasonable time.
Instead of scrolling through social media, I read Matt Haig’s new book. An Impossible Life, And then I went to sleep.
Oddly enough, I felt great.
I had no problem concentrating on my work.
I feel better.
It worked. Shit.
Simple, but not easy.
Many companies create complex problems and then sell complex solutions.
“Be afraid of this ingredient, balance your gut flora, take expensive supplements, do complicated training, buy expensive mattresses and masks and glasses and machines, and only eat between 12:17 and 19:34!”
Here’s a friendly reminder to work hard in the direction of simplicity.
Eat the right amount of calories for your goal weight. Eat protein, fruits, and vegetables. Strength train 2-3 times a week. Go for a walk. Put your phone down and go to sleep.
If you’re not losing weight, just cut down on your calories.
Once we accept that the solution is simple (but not easy), we understand why we can’t do it ourselves.
This is a much more important question: we have hormones, we have kids, we have jobs, we have nasty fights with our spouses, we are overwhelmed with input and information 24/7, and of course it’s not easy to do these things.
We don’t need to focus on the complexities and make things harder. Instead, we need to remember that the simple solution is the right one and focus on making that behavior the default.
Speaking of which, Team NF coach Matt Myers has created a new resource that goes into detail on both aspects above.
It is our Starter Guide: How to eat, how to train, and how to make it work..
