You’ll soon be able to start a Spotify Jam directly in your car

1 Min Read

Spotify brings jam functionality to cars with Android Auto and Google built in, so there’s no need to support it anymore. As revealed in Google I/OSpotify Jams are available through compatible car infotainment systems. It’s a minor upgrade, but it prevents the driver from having to manually launch a Spotify jam session via a smartphone connected to the car.

Instead, Spotify Jams can start from the car’s central display and provide passengers with a QR code to scan if they want to contribute to the playlist. Spotify revealed its jam feature in September 2023, but it was a hit as friends can smoothly share and discover new music. The natural next step is to introduce road trips and collaboration playlists to Android Auto as they pair them up like peanut butter and jelly.

Spotify Jam will be available in over 500 compatible car models with Android Auto in the coming months, and will later be featured in dozens of car brands with Google built in. Beyond that, Google also plans to introduce streaming video and browser apps as part of the Android Auto Ecosystem.
