Wolves Never Promised Karl Anthony Towns He Wouldnt Be Traded

1 Min Read

Karl-Anthony Towns previously sought assurances from Tim Connelly that he would not be traded after the Minnesota Timberwolves accepted a secondary role behind Anthony Edwards. Sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that Connelly said all the right things in his meeting with Towns, but never promised not to trade him at some point.

Towns felt the trade was “totally unexpected” as negotiations between the Timberwolves and New York Knicks were kept secret. For most of the offseason, it seemed like Towns would spend at least one more season with the Timberwolves after losing in the Western Conference Finals.

Towns signed a four-year, $224 million supermax extension with the Timberwolves during the 2022 offseason, shortly after hiring Connelly to lead his front office and trading Rudy Gobert to the Utah Jazz. Signed a contract.

In addition to signing Jade McDaniels to a five-year, $136 million extension, the Timberwolves also signed Anthony Edwards to a five-year, $204 million extension. He jumped from that to a five-year, $260 million supermax contract. All-NBA team.
