Which Steelers have the most to prove at training camp?


The Steelers have not been running training camp for another month, but it’s not too early to watch the moment. Training camp is one of the offseason tent pole events and helps shape who they are that year. It’s also the time for the team to resolve roles, at least in a preliminary way, before the game becomes important.

With that in mind, which Steelers have the most to prove this summer when they roll into Latrobe? The easiest place is probably to identify a position where there is competition. Especially in the starting lineup, it will be wide receivers and cornerbacks.

The second-year Steelers, WR Roman Wilson and CB Beanie Bishop Jr., are fighting for the starting role. Wilson was a non-factor as a rookie, but now the Steelers have an opening for their training camp fight. The Bishop played a significant amount in 2024, but his playing time was apart later this year.

Another potential battle is the Steelers punter’s job at training camp. Cameron Johnston is trying to prove that he is not only healthy, but he is back in shape. Meanwhile, Corliss Waitman last year has been trying to prove that he can do better, not a vampire.

Beyond starting work there is money to consider. Here we are thinking about Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. But they were able to greatly help in instill confidence not only in coaches but in their own right in a strong training camp.

Meanwhile, Jones has switched from right tackle to left tackle. The Steelers have a new look offensive line at some training camp, including Troy Fautanu on the right tackle. Of all the names in this article, he may actually have most Prove it. He is the best draft player who has done little to do yet. But we all just sit around the bank with something great, and perhaps it’s too early.

Oh, and there’s always Aaron Rodgers. He hasn’t been involved in team drills with the Steelers yet, so there’s a lot he’s going to show at training camp.


The Steelers are rebuilding or reloading anything they feel they need to call it after another disappointment last season. They stepped into the playoffs, but they were embarrassed to be there again.

Just like last year, the biggest question about the Steelers is Quarterback Questions. They eventually traded George Pickens, but they have other decisions to make. 2025 NFL Draft Class As we are behind us now, most of the roster construction is complete.

But we still have a long offseason to date for Steelers football and shorts football. At the very least, we can finally put Aaron Rodgers situation to bed and move on to other things. Now it’s about evaluating the roster in place and filling in the holes as we go.
