Last week, one of the world’s most popular shows finally arrived on Netflix.
Lost.
I’m glad more people are finding out about this show because from 2004 to 2010 I tuned in to ABC every week wanting to find out what happened to the passengers on Oceanic Flight 815.
Although the show didn’t quite make it in the final few seasons (yay!), few will be upset with my belief that one episode in particular was the best hour of television I’ve ever seen.
Season 5: “The Constant”.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers for those who haven’t seen the episode yet, so I’ll just talk in general terms.
A character finds himself living in two realities, drifting further and further away from his real life. It is only with the help of his girlfriend, who is his “go-to person,” that he finds his way back from the brink.
In 2011, I was thinking a lot about “The Constant.” I have traveled all over the world.
During those 18 months, every aspect of my life was in horrible turmoil. You’ll stay in a different hostel every night, meet a different group of travelers every day, visit a different country every week or month, and eat somewhere different every meal.
With everything changing around me, training became essential for me, and what kept me sane and grounded was finding a place to train. Playground training Every other day.
and Lost Now available on Netflix, The Constant has been brought back to my mind over the past few weeks as my travel schedule picked up again.
These are the “constants” I’ve been prioritizing lately through life’s ups and downs:
- 15 minutes of physical activity.
- 150g Protein + Fruits/Vegetables per Serving.
- I focus on writing for an hour in the morning.
No matter where I am or what I have access to, I know that if I prioritize these few things, I’ll feel more stable, stronger, and healthier, even if the rest of my schedule is a mess.
I’ve been talking a lot about “self-care” lately. The solution is outside (Think buying a bath bomb or getting a 90-minute massage.) But the reality is that it’s often internal, like setting boundaries, accepting things, or exercising.
What are the “constants” in your life?
Please let us know your Constant.
When everything around you feels like a hurricane, what are some of the daily priorities you take to keep from drifting off into space?
- Have a 10 minute conversation with your spouse?
- Are you going to the gym?
- Why not sit down and meditate for a moment?
- Are you going to call your mom?
- Is it about a 5 minute walk?
With the state of the world today and our own schedules, it’s natural to feel like we’re split between two realities.
Sometimes, our Identity Stolenour “constants” may need to change.
What keeps you tied to reality?
I’d love to hear your thoughts, so please reply and share your thoughts with me.
