The cause of death of former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis was determined to be undecided, according to an autopsy report released by a medical inspector in Broward County (Florida) on Friday.

Davis was found not to respond to his personal assistant at his home gym on Southwest Ranch, Florida on April 1, 2024. He was 35 years old.

The police said at the time.

“The overall nature of the situation, including inconsistency between the site and the results of the autopsy, makes the cause of death and the method of death in this case unclear,” the autopsy report states.

Under the category of “blunt instrument injury,” the report points to a “layer of back muscles,” which revealed 1.5 inches of red wear near Davis’ right eye, a small “gareal bleeding” near the right occipital bone, and a “deep muscle bleeding in the back.” The report did not speculate how Davis suffered those injuries.

A toxicology report, which was part of Friday’s release, found that there were several substances present, including amphetamine/methamphetamine.

Davis was the first round pick for the Miami Dolphins in 2009. He was traded for the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, and he went on to make the Pro Bowl twice (2014, ’15) in six seasons with the team. Davis also appeared in one game with the Buffalo Bills in 2018.

Vontae Davis, the younger brother of former Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis, had 22 career interceptions in 121 games.
