Indian food regulator FSSAI and food safety
Domestic food regulators conduct random sampling across the country’s length and width to test food quality and standards to ensure national safety.
These food samples are sent to various labs, including state and UT government labs, private labs and referral labs managed by the National Food Standards Agency (FSSAI).
The main task of FSSAI is to ensure safe and nutritious foods are available for human consumption by setting standards, issuing licenses and ensuring compliance with food safety norms.
