The Treasury is taking advantage of bookings and exhausting last possible before reopening budgets to fund a military campaign against Iran. Today, the ministry called for the move before the Knesset Finance Committee to NIS 3 billion, within the budget to cover unexpected defence spending. In further demand, the Ministry of Finance called for the addition of NIS 700 million to the defense budget to raise funds through budget cuts from other ministries.

The larger amount, NIS 3 billion, is intended to provide IDF spending on talent that has grown dramatically even before its operation in Iran. It was revealed last month that the preparations had to be used when the government approved a record drafting of 450,000 reserves to cover the expansion of combat in the Gaza Strip. The government originally allocated NIS 10 billion to this reserve, but most of it was used long ago to fill holes in the budget.
For the additional 700 million NIS units, their objectives are classified as a request from the Ministry of Finance and are transferred to the “Security Costs” section. Each government ministries contribute to this item proportionately to the total budget.
It is already clear that adding NIS 3.7 billion to the defense budget will not meet the demands. The informal sources put the costs of their operations in Iran at around NIS 1 billion per day, and even before it was launched, defence facilities spending was over budget at NIS 2 billion.
The Treasury is preparing to resume budgets and raise spending limits, a lengthy legislative process similar to approving the budget again from the start. Until that process matures, budget transfers aim to provide room for sighing in funding for military campaigns.
