How to play NYT Strand
1. Use today’s theme and find words related to that topic. Can you see one? Drag or click the letters in order. Submit your guess by clicking on the last letter twice. When you find a word, it lights up blue and stays that way.
2. Any other words you find are considered clue words that provide clues to the theme word. If you find 3 hint words (each must contain at least 4 letters), the game will show you a theme word and give you a reward. However, if you can’t unscramble it, find three more hint words and the game will highlight the letters of the theme word in order.
3. hunt spangramare special theme words that run throughout the puzzle, but can flow sideways or from top to bottom. A collection of puzzle themes.
4. When you’re done, all the letters on the board will have been used in either theme words or spangrams. Theme words fill the entire board and do not overlap.

Words that serve as clues to solve in-game hints
Your goal is to find hidden words that match the theme of the puzzle. If you get stuck, find all the words you can. Every time it finds three words with four or more letters, Strands displays one of the theme words. These are the words I used to give you clues, but you can use any word you can find that is four letters or longer.
- vine, thyme, rat, star, stare, cent, tone, tone, stone, stones, teen, nose

These are answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find all the words, including spangrams, which are theme words, that reach from one side of the puzzle to the other. Once you get them all (I always thought it was 8 at first, but I learned you can change the number), all the letters on the board are used. The non-spangram answer is:
- love, joy, gratitude, happiness, excitement
Today’s strand spangram
Today’s strand spangram is Emotions. To find this, start at the E, five letters down on the far left, and turn sideways.
