The hill I’m always willing to fight is that the magnetic breakaway USB-C connector is one of the best USB accessories out there. Certainly, it’s not as flashy as a hardware encrypted storage device and not as nerdy as a USB power meter, but it works very well. It is to protect the USB-C port from damage.
I lost sight of someone pulling the cable so hard that I lost the number of USB-C ports I saw. This happened on laptops, desktop PCs, gaming consoles and TVs. I use these breakaway connectors only with power cables so this limitation is not bothering me at all. Cables are not ideal for data transfers or power displays as they can break at the worst possible moment, causing data loss or making the screen black.

The connector also has a small purple LED that shows its carrying capacity. This feels good.
The kit also includes a handy tool to remove magnetic connectors from the USB-C port. But if you’re like me, the tool will soon disappear into the blanks of what’s lost.
