I’d like to share some of the serendipitous and important things I’ve learned in my eye journey since this great story a year and a half ago.
Hello friends! how are you? I hope you are having a great day so far! I have a drink next to me as I have customer calls all day (organifi greendecaf danger coffee Add Mark, water, and citrus LMNT) and it’s ready. My plan is to take a little exercise vitamin and move my legs a little between calls.

In today’s article, I would like to talk about eyes.! I think a lot of people can relate, but when I’m going through something (or someone in my family is going through it), I learn as much as I can about this topic. I read as many books as I can get my hands on, binge on podcasts, and comb through online threads and articles. I am hyper-focused and my entire life is spent on this whole topic, learning as much as possible.
Some random topics like Sensory Processing Disorder (which one of my kids had years ago and completely resolved), Affiliate Marketing, Pelvic Floor and Diastasis Recti, Lifestyle and Nutrition for Autoimmune Conditions I feel like I could give a talk at TEDx about it. And now, over the past year, I feel like MGD, dry eyes, and blepharitis have become a problem for me.
While learning about eye health (to control my bad eyesight), I came across key points and strategies that made a big difference for me, so I thought I’d share them today. .
Please note that this is not medical advice. Always consult your doctor before making any changes. I’m just sharing my own experience.
To learn more about my eye situation, check out the full podcast episode here. (At this point, my lupus markers were positive, so I’ll need to do a follow-up episode, but when I retested last December after making major changes to my life, they were negative.)

Everything I’ve Learned About Eye Care Over the Last Year and a Half
– Eyelid cleansing is revolutionary. I can’t believe I’ve gone so many years without using eyelid wipes. Wash your eyes with facial cleanser (this is my favorite) But the eyelid wipes are next level. It contains scary ingredients, but it works.
– You know I think about the 3 S’s of nutrition (smoothie, soup, or salad every day), but there’s also the 3 S’s of centerpieces. Do not shower, sleep, or swim with your contacts in. Who would have known? No one told me this in the 20+ years I’ve been using contacts until I started having problems. I always swam and showered with my contacts in. Now I wear my prescription sunglasses whenever I’m near water. I got it too prescription goggles and snorkel mask It was worth it for Hawaii! It was great to be able to snorkel with sea turtles and fish and get a good look at everything without having to worry about seawater getting into our contacts.
Goggles also help you be a *fun mom* because you don’t have to worry about getting water in your eyes.
– Omega-3s make a huge difference, but many of us don’t get enough. I take high quality omega-3 supplements (This is my favorite!) I eat sardines for lunch every day, 2-3 times a week. Kids love it too! I’ll share my favorite ways to eat it in the next article. Nutrition can absolutely impact your eye health, so remember to focus on leafy greens, healthy fats, and antioxidant-rich foods.
– How much allergies affect eye health and eye sensation, and how much gut health affects allergies. My allergies were out of control when I was experiencing the greatest eye redness. They react when they’re in dusty buildings or around pet dander, they get irritated when they go outdoors, they can’t tolerate high-histamine foods (especially smoked, aged, or fermented), and their eyes are constantly itchy. I was feeling it. I had some tests done to check my gut health and it was a mess.
The CBO protocol was a huge step in the process of healing my gut and knocking on wood, my allergies are almost gone. (I also had other functional tests done and changed my lifestyle and diet quite a bit.) I had an appointment with an allergist this fall (I made the appointment a year in advance) and canceled it because my symptoms had subsided. I did. I was shocked to be able to take my kids to a cat cafe this summer (with some Claritin in my pocket, just in case), but I’ve been so much better since!
– It’s all about warm compresses. This will help your eyes feel better throughout the day, and when you’re out and about or spending more time at the computer than usual, this will instantly give your eyes some relief. These are my all-time favorites I wish they weren’t disposable, but they work best. (I like it too bruder mask It can be reused when you are at home. )
– Daily contacts cannot be worn more than once. Woof woof woof. I never wore the same shoes two days in a row, but sometimes I would put them on to train, take them off, soak them in solution, and put them back on later in the afternoon. No more. If it comes into contact with me, it is then thrown into the trash. It’s not worth it.
– Hydration also makes a big difference. Make sure you are drinking enough water every day. *Please be careful not to drink too much. I supplement with minerals and LMNT throughout the day because too much water can actually deplete minerals.
– Wear glasses when you are at home. I have been relying on contacts for over 20 years, but over the past year I have started wearing glasses more often. At first it was to actually heal my eyes, but now it’s to get as much oxygen in as possible. I wear glasses all day when I’m on the phone or on the computer, but if I’m running around after picking up the kids from school, I wear contacts. Contacts allow you to see better and work more efficiently, but your eyes are less strained when you type or work while wearing glasses.
-20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes on the screen, look at something at least 20 feet away and blink for 20 seconds.
– We only have one pair of eyes, but they’re so important that it’s worth taking the time to care for them. When I first started taking care of my eyes, I was a little frustrated because it was just one more thing I had to do every day. We spend time brushing our teeth, exercising, and cooking healthy food. It’s worth 15-20 minutes to apply eye compresses, clean your eyelids, and take supplements. 😉
As I started wearing glasses more often and actually taking care of my eye health (supplements, cleaning, sleep, hydration, compresses), my prescription went down for the first time since I started wearing glasses when I was 4 years old. . . It was -5.25 when I was in middle school, but now it’s down to -5.00 and I’m pretty excited.
So tell me, friend, do you wear glasses or contacts? Was there anything you learned that was useful?
