Taylor Swift shocked parents and patients with a surprise stop at a children’s hospital in Kansas City where they laughed, took photos and exchanged gifts.
Parent Kathy Thomas was only told in advance that she would have a special visitor and might want to brush her hair and teeth. But when Swift walked into her son Beckett Thomas’ room at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Thursday, fresh off her Elas tour and the day before her 35th birthday, she was stunned.
“There were no rumors. We literally had no idea this was happening,” Thomas recalled.
Her 13-year-old son, Beckett Thomas, is a cancer patient and a fan of Swift’s Kansas City Chiefs tight end boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Beckett used a 3D printer to make earrings with the names of herself and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on them, and walked around the hospital ward selling them to nurses.
Swift also has a pair now.
“She was amazing,” Beckett’s mother said. “So I got my feet on the ground.”
Another patient told Swift that his favorite song was “Love Story” and asked him some questions about San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, whose team played against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl earlier this year.
Surprised, Taylor tweeted, “Brock Purdy, what? Because Brock Purdy doesn’t care.” She continued: “Last February, he gave me a lot of trouble.”
Asked before the Super Bowl if he was prepared to let Swift down, Purdy said, “Yes.”
The game ended with Mahomes defeating the 49ers 25-22 in overtime, leading the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.
“I felt very stressed for a moment, but in the end I was okay,” Swift told the girl, and a recording of the conversation was posted online.
Then the girl said, “I like Travis now.” To which Swift replied, “Me too. Absolutely yes to that.”
There’s no word on whether Swift will be in the stands when the Chiefs play the Browns in Kelce’s hometown of Cleveland on Sunday.
Associated Press reported.
