The late David Horowitz, who passed away in April at the age of 86, was often rejected as a Fringe figure, not just by the liberals and the left, but also by many on the right. Horowitz will often complain about his book – Blitz: Trump will crush the left and win (2020) and Inside Enemies: How the Totalitarian Movement is Destroying America (2021) – ignored by such a respectable conservative publication National Review and Explanation. Horowitz understood one thing correctly. That both his friends and enemies underestimated him. In fact, as David Klion points out in his obituary NationHorowitz deserves to be seen as the predecessor of Trumpism, having had a major influence on right-wing politics due to his high-pitched and absurdity. Among other claims to the infamy, Horowitz was the leader of Trump’s anti-immigration advisor Stephen Miller.
I tried to revive David the very McCarthyism that hurt the life of his parents, from the red interfering baby to the new left radical right-wing controversy about Horowitz’s long shadow and tumultuous journey. Horowitz left a terrible legacy, but he was also someone who could not ignore the impact.
