Superman the Immigrant Would Have Saved Texas

12 Min Read

In his weekly newsletter, Ellie Mister condemns Republicans’ shameful priorities and their fatal consequences.

The number of deaths from floods in Texas has risen to at least 120 at the time of this writing. That number includes at least 36 children who were campers at Camp Mystic in Carr County, Texas. We also know that local officials were well aware of the dangers. And did nothing. Reports say the flood early warning system costs Kerr County about $1 million and if the money is not subsidized, efforts are stagnant. Meanwhile, the Texas Legislature The invoice was not passed this spring It would have supported the local disaster warning system grant.

Texas spent $11 billion on “border security” Since 2021 As part of “Operation Lonestar” (I wrote about unconstitutional stupidity here). But they don’t direct funds to town to keep their children safe.

If Kerr County demands $1,000,000 to chase Booby along the river with alligators and others Sadistic Death Trap Gov. Governor Greg Abbott would have found money to own the immigrants who tried to swim. But keeping children safe from preventable disasters is not Abbott’s priority.

Or in the US.

Bad and ugly

  • Crisis actor and homeland security secretary Christie Noem criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s “slow” response to floods. She uses disasters to update her phone to eliminate agents. However, that slow response is a direct result of the FEMA policy Founded by Noem himself. FEMA agreements over $100,000 require personal written approval from NOEM. If FEMA is slow, then Noem is too busy picking the next dog for target practice to do the actual job.
  • Speaking of the direct threat to children that this country does nothing to stop, the main source of stolen guns is… Parked car. These guns continue to be used disproportionately in crime. So the proverb “good man with a gun” is not only really useless in preventing crime. A good man probably left a gun in his car, which turns out to have been stolen by a bad guy.
  • Trial over Trump’s attack on foreign students at Harvard It’s progressed this week. I’ll ignore this for a while. In the end, there will be a ruling that Trump will lose. The verdict will then be appealed and the Supreme Court will find some way to get Trump to win. At that time, I’ll pay attention again.
  • I’m not turning over what happens at the Harvard Trial. This still happens today. New Report In May and June, Trump shows he lost 94.3% of his time in district court. However, when the case went to the Supreme Court this semester, Trump won 93.7% of the time.
  • Speaking of the term of office for the Supreme Court this year, Adam Feldman is Year-end Statistical Analysis of all court cases Empirical Scotus. He found that what emerged was a “structural majority,” and that six Republicans would consistently banish three liberals on important partisan issues, despite the Liberals happening to win more than usual this year. There will be no more “swing” votes on the bench. I didn’t need to pull out my calculator to tell you that, but if you like numbers, Adam might be persuasive.

The Worst Discussion of the Week

North Carolina Sen. Tom Tillis is retired. Apparently, it’s now and only now, he can find the spine. Tillis voted against Trump’s spending bill. In a statement announcing his retirement, He said“I look forward to having the pure freedom to call the ball and strike because I think I’m fit and representing the great people of North Carolina.”

I hate this. Tillis has been a senator since 2015. He had “pure freedom” to “ball and strike” throughout this era. surely, That was his job To represent the people of North Carolina [his] abilities have been around since he was elected.” The idea that he can do this job perfectly when he puts one foot out of the door is infuriating.

We always embrace this distorted logic, especially from Republicans. Somehow, we absorbed the idea that the US Senator was elected for a massive six-year term (which is the longest term for elected officials in the country). Only when he announces his retirement would he hope that Republicans will place themselves in the service of the people of this country in place of Donald Trump.

But even so, that hope is often shattered anyway. Tillis, for example, will have many opportunities to frustrate the Trump administration when it comes to judicial appointments. He is on the Judiciary Committee and Trump’s candidates are universally awful. But what about him?

Court AccountabilityAlex Aronson I’ll predict That Tillis could turn out to be like former Nevada Senator Jeff Flake. I’ll talk about a good game, but I’m the one who votes for Trump’s candidate every time the chip goes down. People may remember Flake famously calling for an investigation into an attempted rape charge against Trump’s Supreme Court candidate, Brett Kavanaugh, after he cried out at him in the elevator and changed his mind about the issue. But even if no serious investigations were made, people should never forget that they ultimately voted to confirm Kavanaugh.

Tillis expects to take the same route. He achieves Susan Collins-level “concerns” and returns soon to achieve Susan Collins-level accomplice.

Senators who feel that they “vote their conscience” only when they don’t want to fall into politics should not have been caught up in politics in the first place.

What I wrote

I’ve been working on prints so this week there’s nothing from me digitally. I am also recovering from the end of my Supreme Court term. I play a lot There’s no man’s sky With my kids.

News unrelated to current chaos

There’s a new Superman movie. Superman is not my favorite comic book hero. He’s too powerful. In other words, most of the stories about him have to invent stupid ways to make him powerful to add tension, drama, and stakes. But anyway, I will probably see it.

Apparently, when I go to see it, I don’t have to deal with the Republicans in the theater. White Wings turned on the Steel Man for comments made by film director James Gunn.

Current Issues

Gunn said: “Superman is an American story. Immigrants who come from other places and live in the country, but for me it’s a story that basic human kindness is value and something we’ve lost.”

Can you understand how that statement pissed off bias? For those who don’t speak Republicans, the problem is that cancer calls them “immigrants,” and according to Republicans, “immigrants” is a bad thing.

The White Wing’s Wrath Machine went into overdrive, with various white culture warriors vowing to boycott the film. Former Superman TV actor and infamous Magapinhead Dean Kane I said A new film is “I’m so awakened.” Still, my favorite hysteric comes from Stephen L. Miller (White Wing Journalist Miller, Deputy Chief Trump Gourishness Miller). He said“Superman is not an immigrant. He is an orphan. It’s something that they can spend $300 million on a film and can’t get this very basic concept right.”

The fact that Stephen Miller is paid to make a public statement for his living is something.

Of course, Superman is an immigrant. He is not from America and is even Sol 3 (Earth), but he lives here.and He is an orphan. As always, there is a problem with the concept that Republicans need to make multiple things true at the same time. According to Maga Logic, he was also a “illegal” immigrant, sent here without proper documentation and never returned to Crypton to “wait in line” behind all the other aliens who came to Earth in the “right way.” And he is a “refugee.” His home planet has been literally destroyed, and he is here seeking asylum in the vastness of the universe.

Still, despite Miller’s demonstrable ignorance of Kal-El’s backstory, or for the backstory of Kal-El’s creators, we welcome his new care and respect for the orphans. It is only believed that Miller will be welcomed with all the weapons “not immigrants” from Gaza, orphaned by the Israeli bombing. Welcome to Steve, Progressive Wing.
