Stephen Curry signed a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. The extra year will keep Curry with the only team he’s ever played for through the 2026-27 season. For Curry, it’s not just about getting an extra year on his contract to stay with the Warriors, he said.
“It’s still about winning and taking the steps necessary to give ourselves a chance. The standard hasn’t changed. The expectations haven’t changed,” Curry said.
The extension brings Curry’s contract in line with those of Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins in terms of end date. But Curry said this isn’t an adjustment toward the end of his career. As a veteran guard, he wanted to remove potential distractions in order to focus on next season. It’s the same approach Curry has taken throughout his career.
“It makes no difference from my perspective,” Curry said. of Athletic ability. “I’m grateful for the position and the opportunity and the support from the guys that I’ve had along the way. I’ve always said my whole career that I wanted to play for one team, so it’s good to have that (contract extension) out of the way and be able to focus fully on basketball and the season.”
