On paper, we would probably assume that Star Trek and the Dalai Lama have little in common. After all, the former is a long-term science fiction franchise created by Jean Roddenberry, and the latter is a spiritual leader in Tibet. But it only took an episode. Next Generation To bring together the best worlds of both (so to speak). Under photography Star Trek: Next Generation In the season three episode “The Ensings of Command”, Trek Producers and the actor were able to meet Dalai Lama’s aides and took a photo with data actor Brent Spiner.
Star Trek and the Dalai Lama

This is one story of something so lost in time, but ironically it was discovered thanks to a time travel movie. While working on an article about Star Trek: First Contactsalon author Jeff Greenwald has begun hearing rumors that the Dalai Lama has visited the set of Next Generation. It was a rather wild rumour, but the brave reporter knew that this famous monk K owned the telescope as a child and was interested in cosmology as an adult. Given that, it wasn’t that big of a fan of TV’s most influential sci-fi franchise.
The most exciting part of this rumour was his claim when he visited personally. Star Trek: Next Generation Set, The Dalai Lama took a photo with Brent Spiner, best known for playing Android, Data. Greenwald had barely exhausted the way to run this rumor when he received the unexpected gift. No name Voyager Staff heard about the reporter trying to put together this story and mailed him a slide of the original photo via FedEx.

When Greenwald took a photo, he discovered that there were only half of the rumors. The image really shows that a Buddhist monk K’s aide is on tour Star Trek: Next Generation And I took a photo with Brent Spinner (who had perfect outfit and makeup as data), but there were no signs of the Dalai Lama itself. At the time, Greenwald thought it was a pretty fair bet that this iconic religious figure had to be a fan. Next Generation And his busy schedule prevented him from personally touring the set.
Jeff Greenwald had to work hard to get this fascinating photo, but many Star Trek fans have made it much easier to see this photo of the Dalai Lama aide I did. This is because the image was included in the UK VHS release of “Low Sign of Commands”. However, if you didn’t have these tapes from across the pond, this image is a huge surprise and continues to delight new discoveries every year.
Jean Roddenberry was very careful about including religion in Star Trek, but new shows like A strange new world We explored the more spiritual aspects of this famous franchise. But, after all, even the golden age of trekking was more appealing than the Dalai Lama itself.
And this unexpected intersection of science fiction and spirituality certainly lived up to the franchise motto.
