Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati was released from hospital after receiving treatment for viral meningitis a few days before the start of Euro 2025.
The tournament is scheduled to start on Wednesday, and the 27-year-old Barcelona player will be taking part in the national team’s training camp in the coming days.
World champion Spain will launch a campaign on Thursday with Group B equipment against Portugal in Bern.
Bonmati, who won the Ballon d’Or for the past two years, was absent after a 3-1 victory over Japan on Friday.
She posted a photo of herself on Instagram after seeing a match played in the Spanish city of Legane from her hospital bed.
A statement from the Spanish Football Federation said, “Aitana Bonmati will be released from the hospital a few days later in the viral meningitis hospital and will be taking part in the Spanish national team’s training camp in the coming days.”
Bonmati is a key member of the Spanish team that won the 2023 World Cup, winning England in the final and winning the 2024 Nations League.
