England’s first Tour de France winner, Sir Bradley Wiggins, revealed that the year as a functioning cocaine addiction retirement revealed a year that fears his life.

“I thought my son would be found dead in the morning,” the two Wiggins said. “I was a functioning addict. People wouldn’t notice. I was pretty much a high hour for many years.”

In his autobiography, released later this year, Wiggins travels through childhood trauma, a career in turbulent cycling, and subsequent cocaine addiction and financial struggles.

Wiggins revealed that he had stopped cocaine addiction a year ago without external assistance.

Frankly outlined the extent of his use, he said: “I was doing a lot of cocaine. I had a really bad problem. My kids were trying to put me in rehabilitation. I was walking the tightrope.

“I realized I had a big problem. I had to stop. I was lucky to be here. I have been a victim of my own choice for many years.

“I had a lot of self-loathing already, but I was amplifying it. It was a form of self-harm and self-destruction. It wasn’t the person I wanted to be. I realized I was hurting a lot of people around me.”

Wiggins revealed that he had stopped cocaine addiction a year ago without external assistance, but received support through his recovery from Lance Armstrong.

The dishonorable cyclist, who admitted a massive doping crime in 2013, helped his former rival, 1997 Tour de France winner Jarlich, overcomes his own addiction and is now offering support to Wiggins.

Wiggins revealed that Armstrong “had been worried about me for a long time.”

He added: Ben would say, “I’ve never heard of him in a few weeks, I know he lives in a hotel.”

“They probably haven’t heard of me for days. I can now talk openly about these things, and there was an element of me lying to me without talking about it.

“I don’t have any ground along the way. I can’t drink wine. I buy drugs when I drink wine. My tendency towards addiction was alleviating the pain I lived in.”
