Rory McIlroy He explained why he had to take a break from playing golf.
“A lot has happened this year golf-wise and obviously personally,” McIlroy, 35, said. Patrick Kielty Saturday, September 14 The Late Late Show. “Life gets too busy at times and I just had to take a little break and get away from the game more than anything else.”
McIlroy said he needed to distance himself from the “golf business” in order to realise his priorities.

McIlroy announced he would be taking several weeks off from competitive golf in June, the same month he filed to annul his divorce from his wife. Erica Stoll.
Us Weekly On June 11, McIlroy confirmed that he had filed voluntary divorce papers in Palm Beach, Florida, ending his divorce proceedings. The filing was finalized the same day.

McIlroy and Stoll married in 2017 and had a daughter, Poppy, together. Seven years later, news broke in May that McIlroy had filed for divorce, claiming his marriage was “irretrievably broken.” He also asked for joint custody of their 3-year-old daughter.
While Stoll has not publicly addressed their separation, a source exclusively told us: We She was “lonely” in her marriage.
“She knew what she was getting into with his profession, but once Poppy was born things really changed and she has a new perspective,” the source said. We“Erika was absent from most tournaments and focused on Poppy.”
Now that their legal separation is over, McIlroy will be returning to the fairways and cheering on Poppy to follow in his footsteps.
