Cadia is Newmont’s first site in the world to receive this award, successfully meeting more than 30 criteria in key areas such as environment, community, human rights and governance.

Newmont’s Cadia Mine is the second largest producer in the country and the third location in Australia to receive the Copper Mark. Cadia is the only mine in Australia producing molybdenum and the only mine to have the Molybdenum Mark, an important mineral used in industry and defence.

In 2020, Cadia entered into a 15-year Renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tilt Renewables Limited to purchase 55% of the wind farm’s output. Rye Park is now fully operational and supplies approximately half of Cadia’s electricity needs.

Mr Retallack said Cadia’s commitment to communities had seen it invest around A$6 million in the 18 months to December 2023 to support community projects, education and infrastructure.
