The new season of Squid Games is still officially in “teaser trailer” territory, but a lot of interesting details have been dropped in the latest of season two.
The new trailer shows Song Ki-hoon, played by Lee Jung-jae, returning to the island to take down the rich tyrant and frontman, presumably from within the tournament, and takes us deeper into the game. Seong is back as a player (specifically Player 456 again), and at least two games from last season will be included in the new season, including “Green Light” and Dalgona Cookie Cutting Challenge. But this time, in a sea of green, bloody jumpsuits, we have an experienced contestant to show us how to avoid the pitfalls (both figuratively and literally, if Mirror Bridge returns).
Mr. Seong appears to be on a personal expedition to rescue modern players who may have no understanding of the game and its extremely high stakes. Unlike last season, Son does not smile when taking official contestants’ photos. The new trailer also shows an impassioned Son trying to convince a group of new players to vote to leave the island without harming their lives.
The next season will be squid game Netflix arrives the day after Christmas, but it’s still not coming soon enough for me.
