As cyclonic storm ‘Fengal’ approaches coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, a senior IMD official said that most parts of the state will receive fairly widespread moderate rains.
Chennai Regional Meteorological Center Director S. Balachandran told ANI that the deep depression in the southwestern Bay of Bengal is currently about 310 km southeast of Nagapattinam, 410 km southeast of Puducherry and about south-southeast of Chennai. He said it was located 480 kilometers away.
“It will move north-northwest and is likely to pass between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram by the morning of the 30th. This system will bring rain over the next 2-3 days with moderate to fairly widespread rainfall. “It is possible in most parts of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
“As far as heavy rains are concerned, rainfall is expected in one or two places in Delta district, Chengalpattu and Villupuram in the next 24 hours. “There will be very heavy rain in one or two places,” he added.
IMD officials also advised fishermen not to enter the sea until November 31.
Meanwhile, as Cyclone Fengal intensifies in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Navy has activated a comprehensive disaster response plan.
