Former Australian batsman and television commentator Michael Slater was sentenced after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges.
The 55-year-old was given to four years in prison, but after his term was partially suspended and he was detained for more than 12 months, he was free to walk.
Slater, who was denied bail by a court about a year ago, was charged with multiple domestic violence crimes on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast between December 2023 and April 2024.
The charges included allegations of assault, stranglehold, robbery and stalking in multiple cases against a woman.
During ruling Tuesday, Judge Glenn Cash told Slater:
Slater was sentenced to a two-year community correction order (a non-compulsory punishment in Australia) by Sydney Court in late 2022 after pleading guilty to charges that included general assault and attempted stalking.
The right-hander played 74 Test matches in Australia between 1993 and 2001, winning over 5,000 runs, earning 1400th and 21 half-century, but earning 9 in his 50s with 42 one-day internationals.
He also performed with Derbyshire in Cricket, England County.
Slater became a successful cricket commentator in the UK Channel 4 and in Australia, before being dropped on Seven Network in 2021.
