Although he still has concerns about his knee, he missed the preseason opener due to COVID-19. Ball suffered an illness just before training camp and was unable to practice for more than a week. The virus took a toll on the guards, causing them to lose weight and strength, Donovan said. “From the conversations I’ve had with the medical personnel and the conversations I’ve had with him, I think it’s going to take a while for him to regain his strength,” Donovan said. “We probably haven’t been able to work out for over a week (due to coronavirus). We’ve lost some weight, we’ve lost some strength. We’ll be cautious in our build-up.” -via clutch point / October 9, 2024

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan revealed that Lonzo Ball’s absence from the team’s preseason opener was not solely due to his ongoing knee injury. Instead, the 26-year-old guard, who is recovering from multiple knee surgeries, was recently sidelined with a serious bout of COVID-19. The Bulls opened the preseason with a 116-112 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night, but Ball, who last appeared in an NBA game on January 14, 2022, was sidelined again. Ta.
