As flames consume the landscape of Southern California, some people are focused on what will happen next. The Pacific Palisades neighborhood was reduced to ashes by the Palisades Fire. Containment is minimal, but debris, downed trees and power lines remain scattered, creating a dangerous fire hazard in Santa Ana winds.
Local residents plan to rebuild soon.
Local residents step up to help front lines fighting Southern California wildfires
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think the situation I’m seeing now would come from a phone call,” said Chuck Hart, a fourth-generation Palisidian.
The second she heard about the fire, Hart and her team of contractors rushed to the front lines to protect the community.
“I’ve thrown water on a fire before, but as the wind slices through it, blowing hot embers and flames up the canyon, this time the hot steam hits my eyes, my nose, my face… I mean, it’s intense,” Hart said.

After extinguishing the fire, Hart and his team went straight to cleaning the streets.
“I think the most important thing is to get this done and get this moving forward so we can get around town,” Hart said.
These efforts go far beyond Hart and his team.
“I think it’s easy. We just know that’s what we’re supposed to do. Like we don’t want to leave here or we don’t want to leave here…we’re going to do it. I want to be a part of taking it back,” said Parisidian Nicole Galmacy.

Galmacy and Eli Johnson’s home was destroyed in the Palisades fire. Without hesitation, they immediately returned to the destroyed areas and prepared to rebuild their communities.
“I grew up here, so I know my dad grew up here, and my grandparents know this is my roots. And you’re preserving that.” said Johnson.

“This is something very new. We are starting to do something that has never been done before. Day by day it will become clearer what the next action we direct will be. ”Gyalmasy said.
