Again, all eyes are about who the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback will be. Last year they really rocked the room, signed Russell Wilson, traded Kenny Pickett and traded Justin Fields. The Steelers seem to want to maintain some continuity this year, but they are not guaranteed to re-sign Wilson or the Field. Some people have raised Aaron Rodgers as a possible Steelers. However, Deshon Elliott doesn’t seem to like that idea at all.
“Leave his ass at home after retirement,” Elliot wrote. Under Instagram A post speculating that Rogers could land in Pittsburgh.
It’s not a mistake that Elliott is not a fan of the idea that Rodgers plays for the Steelers. His criticism of Rogers’ age is funny, but is a real reason why the Steelers may not be interested in him. He was 41 years old and it seemed like his father’s time had caught up with him last year. Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but at this point he’s past his prime.
Rodgers is still signed with the New York Jets, but reports have recently emerged that they are planning to move on from him. In addition to some of the gazes he and Mike Tomlin have shared over the years, there was no real credibility in the rumors that Rogers would go to the Steelers.
Similarly, after the 2024 season, Tomlin spoke about how much he valued quarterback mobility. A few years ago, Rogers was able to move well. But much of his athletic ability spent time. If Tomlin is true to his words, it reduces the chances of Rogers’ ending in Pittsburgh.
Five years ago, it would have been a dream for Rogers to join the Steelers. Now it seems like a nightmare. Not only has his level of play reduced, he is surrounded by controversy. Steelers fans are probably tired of the teams involved in the drama. Signing Rogers feels like Wilson is in motion last year. It doesn’t seem to move the needle well enough for the Steelers.
Never say Rogers will join the Steelers, that feels unlikely. The team appears to be more focused on trying to get Wilson or one of the fields back. However, if both players go elsewhere, Rogers will probably be a more serious option. He and Elliot may need to have a conversation before it happens.
