Last Night in Baseball: Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong Shows Off His Glove and Bat

9 Min Read

Baseball is happening all the time – there is almost a lot of baseball for one person to deal with himself.

So, we’re here to help by sifting through the previous day games and finding out what you missed. There are all the best moments of last night in Major League Baseball:

PCA can do it all

Pete Crow Armstrong isn’t new to the majors, but in his second full season and his third year with the Bigs, he has an undeniable breakout. Crow-Armstrong hit .237/.286/.384 as a rookie with over 123 games, but thanks to his incredible gloves, he was above average. Gloves that can play the way he made in the eight innings of Tuesday’s eight games against the Brewers.

That catch was just as unlikely as it looked between the PCA, while the ball was able to reach the point between the center field and the left field and actually catch it. Around Statcast calculationthere’s just a 5% chance of catching there, and Crow-Armstrong did that anyway.

In 2024, this catch would have been the only highlight of Crow-Armstrong. But that’s 2025, with him batting .270/.307/.550 with 19 home runs, surpassing the exchange among NL league leaders. Well, after this massive 8 explosions, 19 Homer, anyway:

A 452-foot-long ball that acts as a dagger, away from the Wrigley scoreboard on the right field. The Cubs closed the brewers from the time they got the lead in the seventh, so they didn’t need another run to win, but this reminded me that this version of Pete Crow Armstrong could do it all.

Buxton was called Dib

Of course, the PCA is not the only double threat found in the Patrol Center Field. Twin Byron Buxton also showed off his own defensive chops and power on Tuesday. At the bottom of the first bottom with the Reds, Wilbenson hit the ball into a deep center field that cleans the wall, and that did…it’s as if Buxton’s gloves were on the fence waiting for it first.

Buxton, 31, came to hit the next inning. The scores were still tied 0-0, deepening deep into the basics of the outfield where Andrew Abbott took Benson.

Reds centre fielder TJ Friedle even tried to steal Buxton’s Homer, but couldn’t line up like the twin outfielders. However, the lead didn’t last long as the Reds end up making the game 6-5. Fans of the twins got at least some highlights. Are they important to the ranking?

Big Damper Big Night

Cal Raleigh has one hell of the season, for catchers and more. However, it was a little since he was in yards, but Rory had a home run that was taken away from him last week and was stuck at 26 in his final seven games. The big damper looked after that tie on one swing of the bat on Tuesday night:

Grand Slams are one way to announce that you’re back in the Homer game, but Laurie added two more RBIs and two hits. He also brought the line of the season to .266/.374/.624, giving the MLB lead with Homers and American League lead in RBI. While Rory was already one of the most hit catchers of the game before 2025, his 188 OPS+ has him as one of the best batsmen. The Mariners defeated the Red Sox 8-0 before Wednesday afternoon’s finale, defeating the series in the evening.

Acuña flashes d

Ronald Acuna Jr. is known for his bat much more than his gloves, but he’s done surprisingly well at this point in 2025. Tuesday night was one of the best examples of his improved play on the right field. He not only made a difficult leap at the wall of Pete Alonso flyball, who wanted an extra base, but then doubled it by turning Mets slugger Juan Soto in one base from the warning track.

Soto seemed a little confused and upset about the play. This suggests that Acuna didn’t get a note that the ball was actually caught before throwing it back, and instead catches up between the first and second, rather than safely returning to the bag.

It was a game with important significance as he came to the ninth top with no runners and outs in the game that tied 4-4 in Atlanta. The Braves doubled the Mets here, making the game extras, and Atlanta won 5-4. New York is currently losing four in a row, but the Braves have scored much needed victory against their rivals and one of the league’s top teams.

The Rockies hit record for seven homers, Thai franchise

The Rockies had a terrifying season, but we have to take the time to celebrate where they come. Like Tuesday against the Nationals, where the Rockies won 10-6, Seven Home run. Colorado has delved deep into the franchise record in seven deep dives and managed to hit four in one inning.

The second base hand, Thairo Estrada, went to the garden on Michael Soroka’s second off, then the first base hand, Michael Toglia, went fourth deeper, also away from Soroka. Things got out of hand when Reliever Cole Henry entered the game seventh. Henry was unable to score an out and instead allowed four hits and four runs. Backstop Hunter Goodman and third baseman Ryan McMahon went straight from Henry, and Estrada hit their second match from Jackson Rutledge. Sam Hilliard added another to give the frame four, while DH Mickey Moniak hit the seventh and final long ball in the evening of eight innings.

Colorado scored a final four-run effort from NATS 10-6, improving its record to 16-57.

Blue Jays back two back walk-off

The Blue Jays also took part in consecutive home run actions, but they made it all dramatic in their own way. Toronto’s Diamondbacks’ 9th place, 4-3, leadoff hitter Beaubichette tied things up 4-4 with a home run from the left center near Shelby Miller…

…And Addison Berger continued on to the right field with his own shot.

For Arizona, despite all the problems this year, they’re hard to lose without the context of only three backs remaining in the wild card spot. And on the flip side, it’s important that the Blue Jays leave the winner, and we can see the wildcard lead getting a little stronger, not just because of the pure excitement of it, but also because of the Red Sox losing at night, 39-33 and while the Mariners and Guardians were winning. There are plenty of seasons left, but all this will increase.
