DOGE is trying to abolish the regulatory state, and that’s the subject of the riff. The hottest thing in Washington these days is an outfit called DOGE. Of course, American taxpayers don’t need them all, and if you flip through the list of these agencies, many certainly appear to be duplicative or unnecessary.
Mr. Vivek told me that he intends to use Supreme Court decisions such as West Virginia v. EPA and the so-called Chevron deference cloak, which criticized regulators for doing things without Congressional orders. He said this several times. Of course, that’s what central planners always do. They fabricate powers to run the country, but they have no constitutional power, no Congressional power, no taxpayer power. They are just doing it to increase their power.
They’ve been avoiding this issue for a long time. Until now. Until DOGE. Now, Vivec and Elon intend to eliminate many of these agencies and significantly reduce the overall federal bureaucracy.
One small item is civil servants who don’t come to the office and do their work. So federal buildings are empty. Why not lease them to a private company and make some money in the process?
What is that sound I’m hearing? This is a slap in the knee to millions of government employees who are rightly concerned about their jobs. Elon and Vivek also want to look at federal procurement policy, and yes, they want to consider major budget cuts.
