Kathleen Kennedy Sets the Record Straight on the Future of Star Wars, Including Her Retirement

4 Min Read

Kathleen Kennedy has not retired from filmmaking. However, she is looking for a potential successor to take over for her in Lucasfilm. The news, including that news, broke out from an exclusive new interview with President Lucasfilm.

Earlier this week, news leaked that Kennedy could have retired from Lucasfilm by the end of 2025. deadlinethe prolific producer didn’t post a timeline, but made sure he was watching the following: “I’m not retired,” Kennedy said. “I’m not going to retire from films. I’ll die making movies. That’s the key to say first. I’m not retired. What’s going on with Lucasfilm is that I’ve been talking to both for quite some time. [Disney’s] Bob [Iger] And Alan [Bergman] As to what the final inheritance looks like. ”

“We’ve been talking [succession]like I said, for obvious reasons I will not be here forever. “George [Lucas] He asked me to intervene 13 years ago, and now I’m looking at who is going to replace me. And like I said, we have a bench of people internally to deal with the business, the creative aspects. Since I intervened, my work has also grown. There was no streaming. There wasn’t much we were doing now. That’s why I grew up. ”

Kennedy refused to name any of the names of those she sees but has given her name from a future perspective Star Wars.

Of course we know that The Mandalorian and the Grog This is the next film to come in 2026. Kennedy has confirmed that the Sean Levy film (which could have been starring Ryan Gosling, although she doesn’t mention the stars) follows. It’s a standalone film set about 5-6 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She produces both.

Kennedy also said that Simon Kinberg was just beginning to write films for his trilogy. She describes it as “the next iteration, a new story that moves us into the future.”

She didn’t mention the film that features Daisy Ridley’s revival, but she said that James Mangold’s film is still in the script stage, like Taika Waitty. “I’m waiting for Taika and he’s working with another writer right now,” Kennedy said. “He’s very busy. I love him. If we get the script from Taika, I think it would be great. I’ve already seen the first act I loved, but it’s hard to tie him down.”

So you have it. The report earlier this week was… not 100% accurate, but it was close. And we may have heard more about Sean Levy’s films. Star Wars Congratulations.
