Who says reality television is not a place for self-discovery?

There are several bumps along the way to the singer’s foray into adult reality stardom. Despicable, mainly from Mickey Rourke.

In a more positive note, JoJo seriously discussed gender and her sexuality label. And she realized that “lesbians” were not the best explanation of who she was.

Like many, JoJo Siwa wonders about her gender

Above Celebrity Big Brother UKJojo Siwa and Chris Hughes received a summon in the diary room. The two broke the rules by communicating via code and had to explain this to Big Brother.

“It’s something I’m not always ready, it’s necessarily open or paying upfront, but it has to do with gender and how I feel,” JoJo replied. “If I say this… what a god, this is a lot…”

She shed tears and Chris provided comfort. JoJo explained: “Essentially, you have women. You have men. I’ve met many women. Love them, don’t feel like them. I’ve met many men and I love them.

“I have met many people in my life that are not binary. These beautiful non-binary people feel that I am the most similar,” JoJo continued.

“And… I don’t know, that’s not something I want to say about myself yet,” she admitted. “But it’s a mess, and that’s probably why we were talking about it last night.”

JoJo concluded: “To be honest, it’s important, and I think it’s important to show that you don’t know and that you’re okay,” she is absolutely right. Gender is a social component, and finding the right label for you is extremely complicated.

One label was easier to choose than the other labels.

Cbbuk’s live stream also shows Jojo Siwa open to drug performer Danny Beard.

“I feel so strange, do you know what I mean? I think that’s what I mean. I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian.

“Yeah, I’m not a lesbian, I’m odd,” I think it’s really cool,” she shared.

“I’m switching letters!” JoJo then joked, referring to the LGBTQ+ acronym.

Danny, who is also a queer, joked: “And you know that the British people love the queue!”

(In particular, the UK has seen a devastating political shift towards the LGBTQ+ community in recent years, including specific targeting of the transgender community.)

It’s good to see JoJo bond with others and express himself after the horrifying homophobia and sexual harassment committed by disgraced ex-housemate Mickey Rourke.

Anyway, what does “queer” mean?

Some sexuality labels have a complicated history. “Lesbians” ultimately refers to the ancient Greek poet Sappho. Sappho also influenced the “Suffic” label.

In fact, some labels were assigned to members of the LGBTQ+ community. Especially in times of human sexuality, unless you’re heterosexual and cisgender. Medicalization.

Originally meaning “strange” or “eccentric,” “queer” was a term used within the gay community until the 1800s. Over time, the label became a slur threw prejudice on the victims.

The label was then recovered through decades of efforts.

JoJo is far from the only one who recognizes that “queer” is a more accurate (and broader) personal sexuality label.

Because her partner is non-binary, some may ask why she simply doesn’t use labels like bisexual or pansexual.

She could most likely lead to assume that both labels are attracted to men too, but that’s not necessarily the case.

but also? People should always use labels that they feel best describe.

The label of sexuality is incomplete, and often leads to explain the sum of what it means to be a person, but it can also provide a strong sense of community. And finding the right label can be a lifelong journey.
