Joe Root is set to return to one-day cricket for the 2025 tour of England and the ICC Champions Trophy, but Ben Stokes has been ruled out due to injury.
Brendan McCullum’s first team as England white-ball manager has been announced ahead of next month’s tour of India (including 3 ODIs and 205 IT) and the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February and March.
Yorkshire batsman Root, who has not played ODI cricket since the World Cup in November 2023, will return with an ODI-only appearance.
England Test captain Stokes has been excluded from selection as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury sustained against New Zealand earlier this month.
Warwickshire’s Jacob Bethell, who impressed with bat and ball in England’s Test series win in New Zealand, was selected in both teams.
Leicestershire leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has joined the IT20 squad, but there is room for Sam Curran and Reece Topley in the 15-man squad named by McCullum for his first tour and tournament in charge of England’s white-ball team. There wasn’t.
