Janelle Brown Says Son’s Death Brought Family Closer

The “Sister Wives” star, who has been opening up about her son’s death after taking time to grieve, said the tragic loss has sparked a new form of unity and fellowship between her and her ex-husband.

Janelle said the heartbreaking event brought her family together in ways they had never known before and repaired the complicated relationships in their former plural marriage.

She said her children, Christine’s children and Meri’s children have become closer and that the incident has revived some difficult relationships.

She continued that her children have made great efforts to connect with each other and be together despite their busy lives and schedules.

“They’re becoming closer, which is really great, because as adults you become more estranged,” the mother of six explained.

“Kody and I check in on each other regularly. He is grieving in his own way, but I am living my life completely separate from him. I wish everyone the best,” she said.

Janelle’s Relationships with the Other ‘Sister Wives’

Despite her current living situation, Janelle expressed optimism that she will remain involved with all of her children “forever and ever.”

She noted her love for her children and how much fun she has spending time with them, and revealed that she and her “Sister Wives” co-star Christine remain close friends despite living “very different lives” and “heading in different directions.”

As for her relationship with the other wives, Janelle hinted that fans will be given a chance to repair her and Meri’s relationship in the upcoming season of the TLC family show.

“I just truly hope that good things happen for Kody, Robyn and Meri,” the reality TV star declared.

Janelle was the second “sister wife” to leave a plural marriage.

Before their relationship soured, Kody and his four wives, Meri, Christina, Janelle and Robyn Brown, had been together for decades.

The family featured their life on TLC’s “Sister Wives” and garnered a huge response from highly engaged viewers.

But one sister wife helped change the course of the case: In 2021, Christine announced that she had separated from the family patriarch after more than 25 years of marriage.

Janelle followed suit a year later in 2022, after which Meri and Kody were in a platonic relationship on and off for years, before confirming the end of their relationship in January 2023.

With the memory of his son’s death still so fresh in his mind, Cody couldn’t believe his son was really gone. Cody, 55, revealed that his relationship with Garrison could have been better, saying:

“We could have talked more. We could have texted and stuff and looking back, we could have done more.”

He said life circumstances prevented them from interacting, adding, “It just seemed like we had forever. It just felt like we had the time whenever it was convenient. Looking back, I wish we would have updated each other and checked in more regularly.”

TV personality Gunvalson explained that she “had no idea” Garrison was in a dark place, and while substance abuse may have altered the late reality TV star’s state of mind before his death, Gunvalson acknowledged that he never expressed “extreme sadness.”

Janelle called her late son “very funny, very bright,” noting that he was happy with his career. “He had a life, he had friends,” the reality TV star said, explaining that Garrison had another cat and was excited about his career prospects.
