Jalen Green powers Rockets to win in testy Game 2 against Warriors

3 Min Read

Jalen Green scored eight three-pointers and 38 points to bring the Houston Rockets to a 109-94 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, even playing the first round Western Conference series in one game.

After a fierce fall to a foul late in the first quarter, the seventh seeded warriors led all night and didn’t play shorthanded after Jimmy Butler left pelvic conspiracy.

Green, the second pick in the 2021 draft, rebounded from the flop in his playoff debut.

His eight three-pointers are two more than the second-seeded rocket, made with six-twenty-nine shots at a loss of 95-85 Game 1.

Alperen Sengun scored 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Rockets. Tali Eason was 14 points off the bench.

Game 2 is a Saturday night in Golden State.

Stephen Curry earned 20 points and nine assists to the Warriors, becoming the 11th player in NBA history to score 4,000 career playoff points at 4,017.

Houston led with about 10 minutes remaining and then went 11 with the Warriors using a 9-0 run on two 3s from the Quinten Post. Jalen Green was asked for a terrible foul on Draymond Green after pushing his arm into his face at the end of that run.

The Rockets then used an 8-0 spurt and were highlighted with a stepback 3 from the green, extending their lead to 99-80 with 5:30 minutes left. Draymond Green received a technical foul on that stretch to discuss with officials, and Eason received it because he threw the towel in a “sportsman-like way.”

The loss of Butler, which he acquired from Miami in a February deal, took a major blow to the Warriors after garnering 25 points, 7 rebounds and six assists in the series opener. On Butler’s injuries, the Warriors were also hampered by a stomach illness in Brandin Posiemsky.

He missed most of the first half of dealing with the issue and was scoreless in 14 minutes after scoring 14 points in Game 1.
