Ireland captain Caelan Doris is one of four nominees for World Rugby’s male player of the year award.
The 26-year-old No. 8 led Ireland to an away Test victory over world champions South Africa this summer and was a key member of the Ireland team that won the Six Nations title last season.
If Doris wins, he will become the fourth Irishman to win the award, following Keith Wood, Johnny Sexton and Josh van der Flier.
He is joined by three other Springboks on the shortlist: former winner Pieter-Steph du Toit, lock Eben Etzebeth and winger Cheslyn Kolbe.
Meanwhile, England winger Immanuel Faye-Waboso has been named Men’s Player of the Year, alongside Ireland utility back Jamie Osborne, South African back Sasha Feinberg-Mgomezulu and New Zealand flanker Wallace City. It’s in the candidates.

England’s current dominance in the women’s game is evident with full-back Ellie Kildan and forward Alex Matthews competing for the player of the year award.

Australian full-back Caitlin Hulse, who won her first cap at the age of 17 years and 242 days and became the youngest Australian, male or female, to play Test rugby, is also named alongside New Zealand’s 20-year-old Hannah King. is listed.
