Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Messenger are back online after widespread “technical issues” took down many of Meta’s biggest apps for several hours on Wednesday. “We are 99% towards our goal, just making final checks,” the company wrote. update For X, it happened almost 4 hours after I first noticed the outage.
The company did not elaborate on the cause of the problem or when it would be fully resolved. As of 4:30 PM PT Wednesday, Meta. status dashboard is still showing “significant disruption” to its business and transparency tools, while other services have been marked as “resolved” or “recovering.” However, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger seem to have mostly recovered.

Earlier in the day, 90,000+ reports Facebook.com isolated and user-wide issues on Downdetector × and blue sky Issues have been reported with loading and using the Meta app. For a while, Meta’s corporate site also displayed the text “This page is currently unavailable.” When Engadget first reached out to Meta for comment, the company pointed to a short statement. on X We acknowledge that “technical issues are impacting the ability of some users to access our app.”
Meta last dealt with a major outage in March 2024 that left users unable to access apps and services for two hours. The reason for the stoppage is “Technical issues” According to Andy Stone, Meta’s communications director, this is the same explanation Meta has offered so far today.
