Leavitt held a chart showing tariffs accused by India, Japan and other countries.
On the chart, two tri-colored yen highlighted the tariffs imposed by India.
“So it’s time for reciprocity and it’s time for the president to make historical changes and do the right thing for Americans, so that’s going to happen on Wednesday,” she said.
Trump said mutual tariffs on countries that impose taxes on American goods will begin on April 2.
Earlier this month, he said that while the current tariffs are “temporary” and “small” but “major tariffs” essentially begin on April 2nd.
Trump said tariffs would be a “major game changer for our country.”
Leavitt did not mention any details on what the tariffs would look like or which countries would be affected.
“We’ll have the President make an announcement on Wednesday, and that’s certainly reciprocity and we’re going to ensure that the American people are treated fairly,” she said.
Trump has a “great team of trade advisers,” including U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, secretary to Treasury Scott Bescent, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, White House aide Peter Navarro, Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett, and Deputy Chiefs of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisors.
Leavitt said Vice President JD Vance was “deeply involved” in the conversation.
“All these individuals presented the president with plans on how to accomplish this. He has decided and will not go any further than him in the details of the announcement,” she said.
