Harris VP announcement coming Tuesday, likely with video

Vice President Kamala Harris is wrapping up a rushed selection of her running mate, with a final decision expected within the next 24 hours, with a video announcement expected sometime Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the selection process.

Specifics of how that will play out have yet to be finalized, but campaign officials have cited President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign as an example. Video Introduction While Harris is being cited as a model, sources said the plan could be upended if media leaks reveal that she has been selected.

The expected announcement comes after a closely watched final weekend of deliberations in which a vetting team led by former Attorney General Eric Holder briefed Harris on about a half-dozen finalists.

Ms. Harris met Sunday with Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota at the vice president’s residence in Washington. A person familiar with the selection process said Ms. Harris has met virtually with other candidates or may do so on Monday.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker were also vetted by the Harris campaign’s vetting team.

Biden formally introduced Harris in a two-minute video released five days before the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The video also included a clip of the future president calling Harris to ask her to join his shortlist.
