The New York Giants could be dealt a major blow if All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas tests positive for an MRI on his foot.
Thomas was visibly sore on the field after being injured “somewhere on a scoring drive” midway through the third quarter.
After the game, Thomas revealed to reporters that he did not come off the field during the game and played all offensive snaps, but was in pain.
Towards the end of the game, Thomas was having trouble playing his position.
“Yeah, just fighting,” he said, before saying his performance that night “wasn’t good enough.”
“I don’t know exactly because some parts of it hurt,” he said. “They couldn’t get any images. I think I’m supposed to go tomorrow… They said I need an MRI to see exactly what’s going on.”
Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Monday that he did not have an update on Thomas’ status but would know once the team returns from vacation on Wednesday.
Thomas missed seven games with a hamstring injury in Week 1 last season, but was looking forward to playing a full season this year.
Thomas anchors a rejuvenated Giants offensive line, rated as the 14th best pass-blocking unit in the NFL by Pro Football Focus this season. He has allowed 4.0 sacks on 16 pressures in six games so far this year, earning a pass blocking grade of 71.8.
The Giants will face the Eagles this Sunday, but if Thomas can’t answer the gong, the Giants will have to opt for Plan B.
That plan would likely involve flipping right tackle Jermaine Elemunor to the left side and inserting the much-maligned Evan Neal at right tackle.
For the Giants, who are 2-4, the last thing they need is another injury that will be critical to their return to championship contention.
