Former Michigan state lawmaker announces Democratic primary challenge against Rep. Shri Thanedar

Former Michigan Sen. Adam Holier launched a major democratic challenge on Monday for two-term Rep. Sri Tanedar.

The announcement marks Horier’s third attempt to secure a house seat that represents most of Detroit. Hollier previously served as the Michigan Senator from 2018 to 2022 and heads the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

“From homes to daycare, from food to car brakes, we are at a real crisis in this country,” Holier said in a press release announcing the Run. “We need bold solutions and leaders that don’t set back in the face of this challenge.”

Taneder, an Indian-American Democrat, has hosted several Black districts in Detroit since 2023. Horier, a black man, approached Taneder in the 2022 primary and did not take part in the polls in 2024. Parliamentary Black Caucus Previously they gathered around Horie.

Millionaire Taneder has primarily funded Congressional bids since taking over the seat held by former Democrat Brenda Lawrence.

“The last thing we need is more billionaires and billionaires like Elon Musk and Sri Tanedal, and they’re just there,” Horie said.

“As Michigan struggles every day, Sri Tandar spends hundreds of thousands of hard-earned taxes and places his own self-portraits throughout the district,” he added. “That’s something only Donald Trump is proud of.”
