Ex-New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman ‘thrilled’ for Saquon Barkley

3 Min Read

The former New York Giants, who are running through Saquon Berkley, led the Philadelphia Eagles to the field at Super Bowl LIX this Sunday, and no one is as rich as Dave Gettlman, the team’s former general manager.

It was Gettlman who judged Berkley to be “touched by God’s hand” before picking him second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Now, much after Gettleman’s tenure ended, he has the opportunity to shine in his talent recognition and do just that.

“I say this, I certainly didn’t expect him to turn around and jump over the man.” Gettleman told The New York Post. “I was watching the game live and I was like, ‘You’re going to be me.’ ”

From the start, Gettleman believes Barkley is a Hall of Fame talent and will ultimately end his career with the Gold Jacket. Even if the Eagles don’t win on Sunday, that prediction probably appears visible, and not as happy as the 73-year-old, who loves to remind him that he’s right.

“If a running back can reach a clean line of scrimmage, then there’s no one at his feet, so great things can do great things,” Göttlman said. “There’s nothing his game lacks in terms of ability. What people didn’t understand when I took him with him is whenever he had the ball in his hand. It is a threat to go far.

“If it’s a legitimate touchdown waiting for the running back to happen (expletive) analysis. You’re in the press box and the ball gets Saquon, the little seam they’re thinking about everything. As soon as there is the whole place holds their breath, “Ah (expletive), he’s going!” Does this shock me? no. And I know when I say these things, I sound like (let’s). No, that doesn’t shock me. ”

Barkley remains intimate with Gettleman, with the two still regularly acknowledging communication and texts. He never feels pressured to meet Gettlman’s high praise, suggesting that instead serves as fuel to motivate him. Criticism of the choice was motivated by Berkley as well.

They are both at the top of the world and are laughing at the moment, but the irony cannot be lost. Berkley is doing it with the Giants’ biggest rival.

“He’s just a great young man,” Göttlman said. “It’s a great situation for him. He’s in the right place, I’m excited about him and I’m proud of him.”

It’s something that shocks anyone, Gettleman supports Barkley as he wins the Super Bowl Lix, winds up the MVP trophy and sticks it back into Giants.
