There has been a lot of smoke recently about Colorado QB Chedure Sanders falling in the 2025 NFL Draft. Due to the need for quarterbacks, the No. 21 Pittsburgh Steelers are tabbed as a potential landing spot. 93.7 Appears on The Fan’s PM TeamCBS draft analyst Ryan Wilson said if Sanders fell to Pittsburgh, it would be a “pretty easy choice.”
“A 21-year-old Chedur feels like a very easy choice for me. As someone who has spent more time in this draft class than the 21 Jackson Dirt, I’m sure I feel better.”
However, Wilson warned that if the Steelers are taking Sanders or quarterback, their hit rates will be lower and can be handed over to better players like Michigan DT Kenneth Grant.
“If you’re asking who’s going to be a better player in five years, Kenneth Grant, defensive tackle or quarterback, you’ll probably tip Kenneth Grant because you know the type of consistency you get.
The first round quarterback was a popular choice for Pittsburgh in the mock draft, but Wilson has a team that has selected Ole Miss DL Walter Noren in the three-round mock draft. He placed second for the Cleveland Browns on Sanders, but was bustling with Sanders potentially falling past the top three pick at 93.7, leaving him with the most likely first round choice for the 9th New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh.
Without Aaron Rodgers signing, the quarterback will remain a need for the Steelers, but there are also holes in the defensive line that the team needs to fill. It seems Pittsburgh’s priority to deal with the defensive line after the Baltimore Ravens ran 299 yards against the Steelers in the wildcard round of the playoffs, but once Sanders drops he could be too intrigued.
Sanders is in Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit on Thursday, according to Jerry Durack of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Even if they signed Rodgers, Sanders could still sit behind him and develop and take over as the Steelers’ future quarterback.
But as always when a team drafts a first round quarterback, it’s definitely a risk. However, the Steelers have no long-term prospects for the position, so if he feels he can be a future starter, they may value drafting Sanders. In much of the pre-draft process, he is considered a potential top three pick, and if he falls to 21 it could represent good value for the Steelers.
They need to weigh the value of taking a developmental quarterback through impactful defensive linemen like Grant, but the first Chedure Sanders will have to fall for the Steelers in late April, and decide whether that’s an easy choice for them.
