A daily section of Steelers Depot, where we’ll highlight a few Pittsburgh Steelers related stories that may not require a full article but are worth mentioning and sharing with you all.

Depot After Dark on August 27th.

Ravens RB on PUP list

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell will be placed on the physically unable to play list for the rest of the season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That means Mitchell, who had a strong rookie season last year before tearing his ACL, will miss at least the first four games of this season.

This isn’t surprising, but it’s unfortunate, given Mitchell’s injury late last year. He’s a young player who could be a big part of the football in the future. The Steelers won’t play the Ravens until much later this year, so Mitchell may play both games. It remains to be seen if he’ll be fully healthy, though.

Chain Gang Lives On

This offseason, it looked as though the chain gang, which marks downs and distances during games, would be phased out when new technology tested during the preseason became available that would automatically send a signal when a team gained a first down.

However, it looks like the chain gang will continue into next season. According to Awful Announcing on Twitter: The NFL will not be using automated systems, at least not this season, and the future is unclear, but for now, chain gangs are here to stay.

Bengals coaches not worried about Chase

There were a lot of wide receivers who signed big contracts this offseason, but Cincinnati Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase was not one of them. Chase had not practiced with the Bengals due to a contract dispute, but he recently returned.

Although he missed a number of practices during the offseason, that doesn’t appear to be a hindrance for Chase to start the season. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Chase will play in Week 1. It would give the Steelers an advantage if Chase and the Bengals get off to a slow start, but that may not happen.
