Cristiano Ronaldo said he will not play in the upcoming Club World Cup after turning down an offer from participating teams.
The 40-year-old contract with Saudi club Al Nassr, who has not competed in US tournaments, expires at the end of June.
Earlier this year, FIFA President Gianni Infantino raised the prospect of joining Portuguese captain Ronaldo on one of the aspects that he was caught up in a contest that begins next Saturday.
But ahead of the country’s Nations League final against Spain on Sunday evening in Munich, the forward said: “I will not be participating in the Club World Cup.
“Some teams reached out to me. Some teams made sense, others didn’t, but you can’t try everything. You can’t catch every ball.”
The future of Ronaldo’s club remains unknown. He posted “This Chapter is Over” on social media following Alnassl’s final league match in the May season.
However, reports show that he was able to agree to a new contract in 2023 to stay with the club he joined from Manchester United.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo, made it clear that his decision regarding his future was “almost final.”
