ASHBURN, Va. — Newly acquired Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore and starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. will miss Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.
Both players have been dealing with hamstring injuries, and neither played last week. Lattimore missed the last game against New Orleans before the Saints traded him on Tuesday. Robinson missed Washington’s win over the New York Giants.
Robinson was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday and did not practice Friday.
The coaches will also be without offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas for the second consecutive game due to an ankle injury. Kicker Austin Seibert was limited Thursday and played in Friday’s practice after missing Wednesday’s practice with a hip injury, but his status is questionable. The team added Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad as insurance in case Seibert can’t kick.
Washington traded three picks to the Saints to acquire Lattimore, giving them third-, fourth-, and sixth-round picks, and getting a fifth-round pick back. But managers made it clear from the start that they didn’t know when Lattimore would be able to play.
“We’re always going to put the health of our players first,” Washington coach Dan Quinn said.
Lattimore missed the Saints’ Week 2 game against Dallas due to a hamstring injury. Washington hopes to stay healthy for the rest of the season.
Washington plays Philadelphia next week on Thursday. Lattimore worked with trainers on a separate field during Friday’s practice, but Quinn said the team will have a more accurate assessment of his chances to play against the Eagles on Monday.
Robinson has already missed two games this season, but he leads the coaches with 461 yards rushing and six touchdowns.
In Robinson’s absence, Washington will have Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols in the starting rotation at running back. The manager could also promote another running back from the practice squad.
They have promoted Chris Rodriguez Jr. three times already, so if they promote him again, he would have to remain on the active roster, per the NFL’s rules regarding practice squads. They could also choose to promote Michael Wiley from the practice squad.
